[Wise and Belle are not quite of the First Brood but they are two of the older dragons on Eorzea (they've long since abandoned their original draconic names, because they like these better). They're just a few eons younger than Vrtra, and thus are closest to their cousin. Helped, of course, by the fact that like Vrtra the two of them spend a lot of time in a humanoid avatar. They'd heard about Vrtra doing it, thought it sounded fun, and after a few mortal centuries of trying on avatars and figuring out things like "gender", they eventually settled on their avatars of choice. Belle spends most of her time in the guise of a cute Au Ra lady and Wise as a slightly customized Viera man.

(Scales. He needed scales somewhere, it felt weird being entirely flesh. His hips and thighs have a lovely pattern of scales that are easy to hide.)

They've settled in, of all places, the Dravanian forelands for a time. They heard that there was someone interesting, someone interesting enough to urge Midgardsormr to wake up for a moment. They're settled in Tailfeather, their draconic bodies tucked safely away in Anyx Trine for now. Belle's taken to being a chocobo tender while Wise has set up as a alchemist and scribe for people who want to write letters but can't.

Hopefully this interesting person will show up.]

[Lighter's eyes wandered too. Seeing where scales began and ended. Wise really was as delicate as Belle kept saying. The thought to have his hands all over that cute body of his were pretty strong as he tried them both off. But what was stronger was the thought of just. Being. Not doing anything.]

That sounds perfect to me.

[Their vacation is perfect. It's the last bit of calm before things start happening in earnest, and then there's chaos on the border and some asshole is using Nidhogg's eyes to summon a mutated version of Midgardsormr and one of the Scions dies and--

Wise is storming around the forelands, furious at what he's seen the last few moons. Everyone is giving him space as he rages, tearing up trees and breaking rocks.]

[Lighter had his own, smaller bout of rage in private after the situation had finally calmed down. He'd always wanted to see Ala Mhigo free... but not like this. Not like this... not at the cost of so many lives, of Papalymo...

And Ilberd didn't even get the fate he should have, taking the way out he did.

It really felt like Lighter was doing things right for a while there.

Hindsight was a cruel fucking wench.

Lighter had taking his bad smoking habit up a lot the past while as preparations to enter Gyr Abania were put in the planning stage. But he also noticed Wise wasn't around and, well, Lighter sort of needed the company. At least the Dravanian Forelands were sort of wilderness. Lighter seemed calm as he approached the raging dragon, but make no mistake they were the same level of angry.]

I finally found you.

[It's only because it's his mate that Wise doesn't tear through whoever came up to him in this state.]

You should leave. I am poor company and like to hurt you.

That's exactly why I came to you. Everyone else told me the same thing. But what kind of partner would I be if I turned my back on you.

["I trust you. You won't hurt me. I know you won't."]

I know why you're upset and I'm not gonna leave you to deal with this alone.

[He kept approaching Wise, in fact. Getting closer.]

[He growls, but he doesn't move away.]

That monster turned mine uncle's eyes against us, when it was not his right, and then dared to summon a mockery of my grandsire.

I know.

[Fuck, he really wanted to smoke right now. But instead... well, he just kept coming closer to Wise. To be right by his side. No matter the risk.]

If any of us knew the Ascians would grab Nidhogg's eyes from the raging Sea of Clouds under Ishgard... we would've looked for a more surefire way to destroy them.

[But only the Azure Dragoon rightly could. And even then with the dangerous state they were in they risked massive destruction.]

... He could say all he wanted he did this for Ala Mhigo, but he did it for himself just to keep following a path full of hate. He wasn't strong enough to find another way.

Unfortunately, only the Azure Dragoon possesses the power to do that among mortals, and he was in no condition to do so.

[Dragons won't destroy another dragon's eyes. That's just...no.]

He was a fool. A fool and a monster and I wish I had eaten him.

[Lighter will admit that. He was angry. He was hurting. But he can only imagine how Wise felt, to say nothing of Yda-- or Lyse rather and Raubahn.

He let out a sigh, deeply rooted in exhaustion and sadness. And he set a hand on Wise's side, rubbing lightly against his scales.]

[Wise lets out a great rumbling sigh, sinking down onto his belly.]

What are thy plans, love?

... Entering Gyr Abania to go after Shinryu and Omega, make contact with the resistance fighters. And maybe...

[The thought made him sigh again, trembling with great emotion. Like he didn't believe it would be possible but desperately wished it would be.]

Maybe finally see Ala Mhigo free if the gods allow.

It will be. I swear to you, my love, that Ala Mhigo will be free by your hand or by another's. And damn that fool for trying to force it.

...

[It was a hard subject for Lighter. Made harder by all that has happened. So Lighter just leaned against his dragon lover in silence for a long moment, letting himself purr just from the presence alone.

Eventually... he broke the silence with a bit of raw honesty.]

I'm tired, Wise... [He will never stop, he will go on undefeated until his last breath. Wise knew that, he's said that openly and declared himself the Undefeated Champion.

But even champions needed rest and Lighter feels like he hasn't gotten any in months.]

Wouldst thou like to stay a while here with me? I will move to my smaller body for thy comfort, and we may rest here uninterrupted for a time.

It doesn't matter to me which body you use. It can be either one as long as it's you I'm staying with.

[He continued to rub at Wise's scales, hoping to steady himself as well as calm Wise's lingering anger.]

Get on my back. I shall fly us back to Anyx Trine and there we shall rest for no less than a full day.

Haha. Sounds like a plan to me.

[So as instructed he climbed onto Wise's back. He was experienced when it came to riding through the sky, but he hasn't on Wise yet. He sat securely while also petting at Wise's neck. He couldn't help himself.]

[And up Wise goes, mindful of his precious cargo as they head back to the tower. He ignores all other dragons and flies straight to his rooms near the top. There, his avatar lies in rest on its bed.

Wise just takes Lighter to his nest, however, and curls up.]

There.

[Lighter enjoyed the ride. But whether it was on a mechanical mount from the Ironworks or on dagonback, he always enjoyed letting the wind be the only sound in his ears as he zoomed past all sorts of scenery.

The way Wise's avatar rested really just looked like he was sleeping. But being brought to the nest worked just as well. Maybe better with Wise's large dragon form curling up to him.]

Nice place you've got here.

It is private, and that is all I wanted. The rest of it came later, as I learned what I liked and what I did not.

[Hence all the blankets and everything being rather neat and tidy.]

[He leaned back some, getting comfortable.]

[Wise tugs a blanket over to make Lighter more comfortable.]

Full glad am I to hear that, love. It is most deserved, after all you do and will do for the star.

I'm sure never gonna stop doing what I need to do. The fight carries on 'till the knock-out bell is rung. But if there's no respite, I can't put on the best performance can I?

[When the blanket was pulled over, Lighter began to purr loudly again and be noticeable all across his speech.]

It's pretty rare still, though. When I can just be L'renz. I'm glad it's with you.

I like L'renz. I like Lighter as well. I do not see them as different people, simply you.

[Hah. That made two people at least...]
